I am a huge fan of the Panther. It was a major upgrade to the somewhat dated Panzer 3 and especially the panzer 2 which was made at the Skoda works. Here is some technical detail on the nomenclature: A roman numeral designates the basic type. Letters indicate model or mark, with the German abbreviation “Ausf.” Examples: “Pz.IV Ausf.G,” “Pz.V Ausf.A,” and “Pz.VI Ausf.E.” Mid to late war AFVs were also known by names, such as the last two examples above: Panther and Tiger, respectively.

Yes it was. This particular Panzer I am standing in front of was on the Military Channel’s Tank Rebuild.
